The Role

Senior Business Analysts specializing in the mining sector to support M&A advisory and investment banking activities focused on mining-related opportunities. The role bridges technical geological expertise with commercial and financial analysis, evaluating mining assets, transactions, and investment opportunities across the resources value chain.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence on mining assets and companies, integrating geological, technical, and commercial assessments.
  • Build and maintain financial models (DCF, NAV, comparable transactions and companies) for mining projects and corporate transactions.
  • Analyze mineral resource and reserve statements (JORC, NI 43-101, or equivalent) and assess their commercial implications.
  • Evaluate mining project economics, including capex/opex profiles, production schedules, commodity price assumptions, and risk factors.
  • Prepare investment memoranda, pitch books, valuation summaries, and board-level presentations.
  • Monitor commodity markets, mining sector trends, M&A activity, and the competitive landscape.
  • Support deal execution, including coordination with technical consultants, legal teams, and counterparties.
  • Assess geopolitical, permitting, environmental, and ESG risks affecting mining investments.
  • Structure and evaluate alternative and structured financing schemes for mining operations, including metal prepays, royalties, streaming agreements, offtake and marketing arrangements, and debt/equity hybrids, and assess their impact on project economics and counterparty risk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Earth Sciences.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in mining, investment banking, corporate finance, equity research, or technical/financial advisory within the resources sector.
  • Exposure to M&A transactions, project finance, or asset valuation in mining is highly desirable.
  • Formal business education or training is a plus (MBA, finance/business degree, CFA progress, or equivalent practical commercial experience).
  • Demonstrated understanding of mineral resource classification codes (JORC, NI 43-101, SAMREC, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of structured financing instruments used in the mining sector, including prepays, royalties, streams, and offtake agreements.
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills.
  • Ability to translate technical geological data into commercial and financial insight.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; familiarity with mining technical software (e.g., resource and mine-planning tools) is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including report and presentation preparation.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams under deadline pressure.
  • Attention to detail and sound commercial judgement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across multiple commodities (e.g., base metals, precious metals, bulk commodities, battery metals).
  • Knowledge of ESG frameworks relevant to mining.
  • Additional languages and willingness to travel to project sites.
