Job Description

About Us

Our Mission is to help those in need with our out-of-this-world superpowers. Avalanche Laboratory's purpose is to be a reliable and long-term business partner to our customers—offering them customized software solutions tailored for their business processes.

We work on a project basis across the EU and beyond. To date, we've delivered over 320 successful projects, with another 45 currently in progress. Our clients span industries from financial services, fintech, and government, to manufacturing and technology, partnering with us to solve complex transformation challenges.

The Role

We are looking for a BI Data Steward to join an Agile delivery team within the Risk domain in a leading banking environment. This role requires proven hands-on experience working in Agile environments, including the ability to clearly explain Agile principles and demonstrate their practical value in IT delivery teams.

The team owns several key Risk services that are critical to both ongoing operations and upcoming initiatives:

  • BI Forbearance (data sourcing and outputs)
  • BI Riskgrade Consolidated (BIS)
  • BI Data Governance Registry
  • BI Exposure

These services form foundational components used across multiple Risk value delivery teams. As several initiatives are actively building new features on these platforms, the role involves managing dependencies and operating effectively under delivery pressure.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly hands-on professional with a strong passion for data and data stewardship. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, analytical thinking, and strong collaboration skills.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications:

  • Strong, practical experience in SQL with the ability to work deeply with data.
  • Proven experience in data governance, data management, or similar roles (e.g., Data Steward, Business Analyst, Reporting Analyst, IT System Analyst).
  • Solid experience working in banking or financial services, preferably within the Risk domain.
  • Strong understanding of banking products, processes, and IT systems.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including analyzing large datasets, identifying data quality issues, and understanding complex data structures.
  • Hands-on experience with data warehousing and reporting concepts, including data profiling techniques.
  • Solid understanding of database structures and principles.
  • Proven ability to gather, analyze, and document business, functional, and data requirements.
  • Experience defining and maintaining business data definitions, glossaries, metadata, and data quality rules.
  • Experience designing data mappings, transformation logic, and business rules aligned with enterprise data architecture.
  • Experience monitoring data quality issues, performing root cause analysis, and coordinating remediation across teams.
  • Strong proficiency with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive and engaged approach to teamwork.

Experience Level

  • 4–6 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Strong competence in solving complex problems and understanding interconnected systems.
  • Ability to guide and support others, corresponding to a senior consultant or equivalent level.

Location and Working Model

  • Location: Baltics
  • On-site presence three days per week is mandatory to ensure effective collaboration with the team.

What We Offer

  • Work on a high-impact, large-scale migration project in a pan-European environment
  • Be part of a strong, focused team of senior engineers and consultants
  • Compensation: Employment in Estonia up to 3,600 EUR gross, in Latvia up to 3,900 EUR gross, or a B2B rate of 30–35 EUR/hour depending on seniority and experience. In Lithuania, only the B2B option is available.
