Ethereum: Glamsterdam's test fork is postponed

Market News

News: Ethereum's Glamsterdam test fork is postponed

CoinDesk: Ethereum fixes Glamsterdam deposit bug

  • Hoodi testnet fork (set for Oct 26) is off; no new date
  • Devs are checking how EIP-8037 interacts with mainnet contracts
  • Separately fixed: a bug that could credit staking deposits to builders (no losses)

Why it matters

  • Glamsterdam brings ePBS (EIP-7732) and block-level access lists (EIP-7928) (ethereum.org)
  • Mainnet needs a new Hoodi date first (CoinDesk); Q4 2026 is "not confirmed" (ethereum.org)

For analysts: builder payments move on-protocol with ePBS, so that data will come from the chain, not relays.

News: HSBC launches a HKD stablecoin to 3.3M+ PayMe users

CoinDesk: HSBC rolls out its first stablecoin

  • RedCoin (RCHKD), licensed by the HKMA, launched Oct 23 in PayMe
  • P2P payments and 100,000+ merchants; HSBC HK app later this year
  • ~$10.2M in circulation vs $10.4M cash reserves soon after launch

For analysts: it runs on HSBC's private ledger, so there is no public onchain data; supply comes from HSBC's reserve tracker.

Onchain Data News

News: Dune streams DEX trades ~1 s after execution

Dune logo

  • 200+ venues on 12 chains: spot (incl. Ethereum, Solana, Base) and perps (Hyperliquid, Lighter)
  • Each trade: price, size, side, a stable ID and a link to its settling tx
  • Up to 8 years of history for backtests

Why it matters

  • Dune says ~25% of spot crypto trading is now onchain
  • Tokenized stocks and ETFs traded $37B+ onchain in Q3 2026

For analysts: trades link to their transaction, so you can join the feed back to raw chain data.

News: Etherscan and CryptoQuant plug onchain data into AI assistants

Etherscan Ethereum Mainnet Explorer banner

  • Etherscan's Claude connector: read-only, 60+ EVM chains, no API key
  • Balances, tx history, gas, logs, token transfers; answers link to Etherscan
  • CryptoQuant MCP server: 245+ metrics (MVRV, SOPR, exchange flows), free Basic tier

For analysts: answers link back to Etherscan, so you can check each number before you use it.

Failed transactions still pay gas

Exercise sample: 100 Ethereum transactions, 78 succeeded and 22 reverted; 77 senders, 59 rows in the answer Caption: Exercise sample: 100 mainnet txs, blocks 19,000,000–19,000,099

  • A reverted tx changes nothing onchain, but its sender still pays gas
  • Gas cost = gas_used × gas_price, in wei
  • Puzzle: total gas cost per sender, successful txs only

Catch: 77 senders in the data, 59 rows in the answer. And BIGINT overflows around 9.2 ETH.

transactions(block_date, from_address, value,
  gas_used, gas_price, success)
-- expected: from_address | total_gas_wei
-- (highest first)

Next, in Pro: EIP-1559 fee breakdown. Code WORLDSFAIR: first month free, then $15/month. First 50 new customers, until Oct 31.

Chart of the Week, powered by Allium

Chart: How much gas do failed Ethereum txs burn?

Allium chart: daily ETH paid in gas by failed Ethereum transactions (bars) and the share of transactions that failed (line), last 90 days Caption: Ethereum mainnet · daily ETH paid in gas by failed transactions (bars, ETH) and share of transactions that failed (line, %) · last 90 days

In the last 90 days, 2.4M of 178.6M Ethereum transactions (1.35%) failed, yet they still paid about 280 ETH in gas, or 1.73% of all gas paid.
