The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Engineer with deep expertise in PostgreSQL, along with database-related DevOps experience. The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and maintaining large-scale database environments, with particular emphasis on SQL performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, database scalability, and cost-efficiency improvements.
The ideal candidate will have strong DevOps skills for database automation and CI/CD pipelines, plus additional knowledge in financial business systems and blockchain technologies to support advanced data-driven solutions across finance, distributed systems, and large-scale analytics.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of scalable PostgreSQL and cloud data warehouse architectures to support business-critical fintech applications.
- Proactively monitor system performance and troubleshoot bottlenecks using advanced profiling and warehouse optimization techniques.
- Drive initiatives to improve database cost-efficiency in cloud environments while ensuring the platform can scale with global demand.
- Develop standards, operational runbooks, and automated pipelines for safe, seamless schema changes.
- Ensure all data platforms adhere to strict governance, security protocols, and international financial compliance standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert for developers and data engineers to refine schema designs and data pipelines.
Requirements
- At least 3–5 years of production experience with PostgreSQL.
- Mastery of SQL optimization, including advanced indexing, partitioning strategies, and deep execution plan analysis.
- Understanding of AWS-hosted services (RDS/Aurora) and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to design and manage high availability (HA), failover mechanisms, and complex disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
- Deep understanding of engine-level operations such as MVCC, vacuuming, and checkpointing.
- Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or Ansible) and scripting for automation (Python/Bash).
- Experience in DevOps for databases, including CI/CD integration (e.g., Liquibase) and automation for provisioning and patching.
Nice to Have
- Background in high-frequency trading, payment platforms, or large-scale financial systems.
- Experience or interest in distributed ledger technology (DLT) and its integration with traditional database systems.
- Exposure to hybrid data solutions involving NoSQL systems (e.g., Cassandra or MongoDB).
- Familiarity with real-time data streaming architectures (Kafka, CDC) and modern observability tools like Prometheus or Grafana.
