Job Description

About Us

CryptoQuant provides data analytics products for institutional and retail investors across more than 150 countries, supporting investment in Web3 assets. We operate a data platform that collects and processes exchange and on-chain data at scale, then serves it reliably to our products, research team, and customers. We collect, process, and analyze transaction records of blockchain assets such as BTC and ETH, along with data on the wide range of financial activity taking place on-chain, and turn it into something investors can readily understand.

The Role

We are looking for a data engineer who wants to work with the enormous volume of blockchain transaction data generated in real time, and to understand what makes blockchain data compelling at a depth few others reach.

This position owns the entire path data travels, from the moment it arrives to the moment it reaches the customer. Rather than committing to a fixed technology stack, we are looking for someone who can define the problem, weigh the trade-offs, and choose the right architecture and operating model.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build pipelines that reliably ingest and store data from diverse sources, including exchanges, on-chain networks, and third parties
  • Improve the operational stability of large-scale batch and streaming systems, covering observability, incident response, reprocessing strategy, and prevention of data loss
  • Model our data lake and warehouse, and optimize them for performance and cost
  • Define the data SLAs required by our services, APIs, and analytics environments, and deliver serving datasets and interfaces that meet them
  • Build the automation that makes a data system operable, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and data quality checks

What You Will Gain

  • Experience building a data platform that a real product depends on, by solving genuine operational problems in large-scale collection, processing, and serving
  • Experience designing systems where you personally weigh the trade-offs between performance, cost, and stability
  • Room to grow broadly, from infrastructure through to data modeling, working at the boundary between data engineering and platform engineering

Requirements

  • Understanding of the blockchain and on-chain data domain, or experience with related projects
  • Experience developing data processing and pipelines with Python, Spark, and SQL
  • Experience operating batch pipelines using workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow
  • Experience running services or data systems in a cloud environment such as AWS or GCP
  • Experience analyzing incidents systematically, identifying root causes and preventing recurrence, and demonstrating improvement through operational metrics
  • Experience using AI tools such as Claude or GPT to improve productivity, including prompt design, automation of repetitive work, and support for documentation and research
  • Korean language proficiency sufficient for day-to-day work communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with blockchain and on-chain data, including understanding of chain-specific data models such as transactions, event logs, and UTXO
  • Grasp of the fundamentals behind on-chain analysis, including address and entity labeling and clustering
  • Understanding of the data, features, and rules involved in label detection, such as identifying exchange or institutional wallets, or in entity clustering
  • Experience building, modeling, and operating data pipelines on Databricks and Airflow
  • Experience with streaming or messaging-based processing such as Kafka or Kinesis, or with operating real-time aggregation and transformation systems
  • Hands-on experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Spark or Flink
  • Experience designing, operating, and tuning a data lake or warehouse such as BigQuery, Delta Lake, or Snowflake
  • Experience establishing analytical transformation and modeling systems such as dbt
  • Experience building or operating data governance, covering permissions, lineage, and cataloging
  • Ability to communicate in English at a working level, meaning reading, writing, and participating in straightforward meetings

Employment Terms

Please read this section carefully, as the terms for candidates based outside Korea differ from those described elsewhere.

  • Engagement model: For candidates based outside Korea, we generally engage through a local employer of record, or on a freelance or contractor basis. Which of these applies depends on your country of residence and on local legal requirements. This is not employment under a standard Korean employment contract.
  • Compensation and benefits: The benefits listed for employees hired in Korea do not transfer automatically to candidates based abroad. What is available to you depends on your engagement model and on what the local employer of record can support in your country. Specific terms will be set out in writing during the offer discussion.
  • Working hours: There are no fixed core hours for team members based outside Korea. Our team operates on Korea Standard Time, and we ask that you maintain a reasonable window of overlap for meetings and collaboration.
  • Visa sponsorship: We are generally unable to sponsor work visas for relocation to Korea. If you are looking to move to Korea, this role is unlikely to be a fit. This posting is intended for candidates who will work remotely from their current country of residence.
  • Work arrangement: Full remote work available.

Benefits (Korea-based employees)

We provide a best-in-class working environment focused on letting you concentrate solely on your work.

  • Work arrangement: Monthly working hours system with flexible start and end times (core hours 13:00-15:00), non-comprehensive wage system with separate overtime compensation, and full remote work with office stipends available for interested staff
  • Personal equipment: Upon conversion to full-time status and on a three-year cycle, employees can freely purchase a laptop within a cost limit
  • Time off: Flexible use of annual leave, maternity leave and childcare leave provided, unpaid menstrual leave
  • Insurance and healthcare: KMI health checkups provided for employees and spouses (with availability for associates), four major insurance types
  • Other benefits: Holiday gifts, birthday gifts and shortened work hours, stock options, education support, celebration and condolence gifts, unlimited work-related book purchase support

Hiring Process

Application review - take-home assignment - technical interview - culture fit interview - reference check - offer discussion - hire.

  • Following an offer, full-time employment is confirmed after a three-month probation period, during which you receive 100% of your salary. For engagements outside Korea, an equivalent initial period may apply, with the specifics confirmed during the offer discussion.
  • The take-home assignment is shared once your application passes review, and must be submitted within the given deadline.
  • The technical interview is based on your application materials and your take-home assignment.
  • The culture fit interview assesses alignment with the culture at CryptoQuant.
